About

Kayla lives in the Bay Area of California with her loving husband (her high school boyfriend) and their three wild and free children. She's just a brown haired girl who loves flowers.
Mission
Kayla is an advocate for children and women. Kayla is a proud survivor of complex trauma. Through a combination of faith and earthly resources Kayla has been healed of CPTSD, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, and depression. She believes children are the greatest voice of truth. She prioritizes her immediate family before extending love and care to friends, extended family, or the broader community. She listens to music all day long. She protects her peace and dances in her backyard.
Artist
In 2015, Kayla Dickens fell in love with hand-embroidery hoops filled with wildflowers and experienced a superbloom of success. She spent hours upon hours stitching tiny red roses, coral tulips, white daisies, yellow sunflowers, purple lavender and more. Her social media accounts grew quickly, while her patterns became bestsellers on Etsy, and her YouTube videos soared. Within 2 years she sold kits, hosted tables at a few markets, hosted stitch nights with friends, created a monthly stitch club, and still accepted custom orders. Being a young artist was exciting and she always answered, "Yes!". She soon found herself overcommitted, overworked, and underpaid. Her superbloom was over. She and her art went dormant.
She's waited, just like a dormant flower, for favorable conditions. Over the last 10 years she has enriched her soil, embraced the rain, stretched out her roots, enjoyed the sun, and is now ready to go through the life cycles of creating art.
In 2025, Kayla Dickens reopened her shop to sell her original wildflower hand-embroidery patterns, abstract floral paintings, sketches of flowers, stationary, and more.
Author
Kayla Dickens has dreamt of writing a memoir since the moment she knew they existed. To put into written word and share her child perspective was accelerating to her broken spirit. God whispered that her story would help bring light to the shadows and make a difference in this world.
Due to what she calls "accidental generational trauma cycles" she was a little girl desperate for wisdom, healing, and love. Her Christian family prided themselves on giving forgiveness which naively brought repeated danger to their doors. Kayla scoured through the resources available to her, observing and absorbing everything. She adored the kindness of Mary Poppins, the words of intelligence from John Tesh on the radio, the familial love of the Sound of Music, the free mental health awareness that Dr. Phil gave on TV (save PBS), the positive lyrics in songs, and most importantly the teachings of the Bible. Her Grandma reminded her daily of what the Bible said while her Grandpa reminded her to READ the Bible daily. Spoiler alert: She's had some religious trauma too.
She took being Christian seriously as a young girl and devoted her little childhood to Jesus. She forgave quickly without boundaries and repented deeply when her tongue caused a fire. She symbolically stoned herself for the way she acted out. By the age of 12, she begged God for His mercy. Comforting herself that her sufferings were for His glory, these were her trial and tribulations, and joy was on the way. She showed kindness to hurting classmates and stood up for injustice at every turn. She wanted to make a difference, bring the light, and be a shoulder to cry on. Kayla fell in love with her high school boyfriend who just listened to her endlessly while he tinkered on the computer.
Desperate for good mental health she pursued personal counseling at 18 years old. Unfortunately, due to fear and lack of information, her family did not support her decision to seek help outside of the Bible. Gaining knowledge and applying Jesus' teachings caused Kayla to be set apart. For the next 20 years Kayla has been able to explore, experience, and deep dive every topic she pointed at as a young girl. She's moved from her hometown and has become a wife, a mother, and a woman dedicated to sharing the good news that includes self-care, boundaries, and all the fruits of the spirit with the occasional finger pointing at oppression, addictions, trauma, and setbacks all while giving her available support before releasing it all to God to take care of.
As an adult, now 38, she's freed herself by pursuing emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health. She's not at an expert level but is loving the strength she's built and the progress she's made. Through it all she's had the Holy Spirit by her side guiding her along. She's like Moana who moves confidently and quickly once God has spoken to her and revealed the truth or a path to take. Kayla trusts God. She knows God. She quickly reminds all who will listen that: 1) Children must be protected. 2) In order to change the world you must have a total transformation of heart and mind by treating yourself and the women in your life well. 3) Church is truly where two or three gather in His name and there He is with them. You need to READ the Bible so you really know what it says for yourself. 4) Do the right thing every time God gives you an opportunity to do so. 5) Life is meant to be lived so eat, drink, and be merry. 6) Love covers. Love is important.
Kayla is currently in the process of writing a personal memoir. Just for fun, she's also writing and illustrating a children's book about friendships and flowers. Depending on how the wind blows she may even share poems and short essays along the way.
